Admissions

Independent schools run their own admissions. You register directly with the school, usually for a fee, and the school sets its own deadlines, assessments and offer dates, which are separate from the borough process.

Entry points, as published by the school

  • Year 7 (11+)

Registration, then a first assessment: a one-hour computer-based Cambridge Select Insight test of numerical, verbal and non-verbal skills, sat at the school. Successful pupils return for a second assessment day (45-minute English paper testing creative writing and analytical skills, 45-minute maths paper testing problem-solving, plus taster lessons), followed by interviews later in January. Offers follow GSA date guidelines and are unconditional. Source

  • Sixth form (16+)

All candidates sit an assessment at CLSG beginning with a multiple-choice critical thinking test (no preparation required), then one or two written papers depending on proposed A Levels: a 45-minute argument-based essay for essay-based subjects and/or a 45-minute maths paper for maths/science-type subjects. Candidates with potential to thrive are invited back for 10-minute subject interviews. Offers are conditional on at least eight GCSEs/IGCSEs at grade 7 or above and at least an 8 in chosen A level subjects. Source
