Admissions

Independent schools run their own admissions. You register directly with the school, usually for a fee, and the school sets its own deadlines, assessments and offer dates, which are separate from the borough process.

Entry points, as published by the school

  • Year 6 (10+)

The College occasionally has a small number of Occasional Places available in Year 6; families register their interest rather than following the standard assessment cycle. Source

  • Year 7 (11+) · 90 places

Around 90 pupils join the Lower School at 11+ each year (plus boys moving up from the Junior School, making a year group of around 150). Registration (GBP 200, free for Pupil Premium), then a two-part admissions test lasting about 3 hours in total: Part 1 online tests and Part 2 creative writing. 180 boys are invited to interview; offers are based on examination performance, interview and a reference from the candidate's current Head. Candidates cannot apply for both Year 7 and Year 9 Deferred Entry. Source

  • Year 9 (13+) · 80 places

Around 80 boys join Year 9 (joining 150 from the Lower School, total around 230). 50 places go to boys at UK 13+ prep schools via Deferred Entry, sitting the College's own bespoke entrance examinations in Year 6 (the ISEB pre-test is NOT used); Deferred Entry is conditional on remaining at the prep school to the end of Year 8. The remaining 30 places go to boys who sit entrance examinations in Year 8 (written English and Mathematics papers plus online Reasoning tests). Offers are based on examinations, interview and a Head's reference. Source

  • Year 10 (14+)

A small number of boarding places is available for Year 10 entry; Year 10 day places are not available. Candidates sit examinations in Mathematics, English and Reasoning; overseas boarding applicants test in late October to early November, and overseas boarding applicants at school in the UK sit the examinations at Dulwich College. Source

  • Sixth form (16+) · 40 places

Approximately 40 new boys enter Year 12 each year (the majority boarding), making a year group of around 250. Applicants sit written examinations in each of the three subjects chosen for A level (Art and D&T by portfolio, Computer Science via the maths exam plus interview, PE via group interview); those who perform strongly are shortlisted for interview in person or online. Minimum entry requirement for UK applicants: 65 points at GCSE, with grade 8 or above in English Language, Mathematics and all subjects chosen for A level where previously studied. Offers are based on examination, interview and a Head's report. Source

  • Year 3 (7+)

Year 3 is the main point of entry to the Junior School. Over half of Year 3 comes up from DUCKS Kindergarten and Infants' School; boys applying for the remaining places sit entrance assessments during Year 2, making three forms of around 20 pupils. Registration fee GBP 200 (GBP 440 overseas). Source
