    Approximately 80 new children join Year 7 each September, alongside around 105 pupils moving up from Year 6 of the Junior School. Apply by noon on Wednesday 4 November 2026 for 2027 entry (fee GBP 210). Entrance exams in English (reflecting the KS2 National Curriculum) and Mathematics (no specific syllabus needed) are taken at the school in early December, and a confidential reference is requested from the Headteacher; a significant proportion of candidates are invited to a second-stage assessment in January comprising a group interview and taster lessons. Offers are sent in early February with acceptance required by early March and a deposit payable. Source

  • Year 9 (13+)

    The main points of entry to Highgate are 4+, 7+, 11+ and 16+. If a current pupil leaves due to family circumstances the school may sometimes offer an occasional place in another year group (excluding Years 2, 6, 11, 12 and 13); a new Occasional Place enquiry form must be completed each year (forms for September 2027 open in September 2026) and assessments are held around mid-March.   • Sixth form (16+) · 30 places

    Approximately 30 new pupils join Year 12 each September, alongside around 185 moving up from Year 11. Entry requirements are GCSE grades 8 or 9 in the four subjects the applicant wants to study at A level plus an additional four grade 7s (or equivalent); where a subject is new at A level, a grade 8 in a related GCSE is needed. Apply by noon on Friday 16 October 2026 (fee GBP 210); there is no written assessment - all applicants attend an in-person interview day on Saturday 14 November 2026 with interviews in each nominated subject plus a general interview. Offers on Tuesday 1 December 2026 (conditional on GCSE results), with decisions required by Thursday 10 December 2026. Source

  • Reception (4+) · 60 places

    Approximately 60 new children are welcomed into Reception each September. Applications for 2027 entry open Monday 7 September 2026 and close at noon on Friday 25 September 2026 (application fee GBP 210). All applications are reviewed in October and a shortlist may be drawn if applications exceed assessment places; first-round assessments at the school in November are small-group, play-based sessions with 1-2-1 tasks assessing learning readiness, with shortlisted children invited to a second, deeper assessment in early January. Offers are sent in late January with a response required by early February and a deposit payable on acceptance. Source

    Approximately 50 new children join the Junior School each September, alongside 60 pupils moving up from the Pre-Prep. Apply by noon on Wednesday 4 November (fee GBP 210); children sit an assessment at the school on Tuesday 1 December consisting of tests in English and Mathematics, and a confidential report is requested from the current Headteacher. Some children are invited to a second assessment in early January (taster lesson and group interview); outcomes are sent on Friday 22 January, with a response required by Wednesday 3 February and a deposit payable on acceptance.
